Module summary
- Ever had a bad experience at work? - Do you know someone who had the employee from hell? This module covers the legal contexts in which employers and employees (and workers) can resolve their differences. The module examines the law relating to individual employment in its social context. It also introduces social and political arguments on relations at work. The module covers: - the formation of the employment contract, the contract of employment and atypical work- sources of contract terms- statutory employment rights- rights on termination of employment (wrongful and unfair dismissal and redundancy) and rights on business transfers. This module is taught by lectures and seminars in semester 1 and 2. Assessment is by one 2,000 word essay and one 2 hour examination.This module is mutually exclusive with LUBS3915.Objectives
- To examine the law relating to individual employment and industrial relations in its social context- to introduce social and political arguments on relations at work
- to develop analytical and problem-solving skills.
