Objectives

On completion of this module students will be able to; understand the ways in which theory and research may contribute to the effective management of people in the workplace; critically evaluate theoretical and empirical contributions to the relevant literature; understand and assimilate information given in research journal articles; and apply group working, presentation, communication and written skills.

Syllabus

This module advances understanding of organisational behaviour in three ways: (1) It explores how the organisation of work impacts upon key individual and organisational outcomes. (2) It considers how effective human resource management is essential to organisational functioning. (3) It explores the wider environment of organisations and considers the implications of changes in work and employment.

Private study

For each 20 credits of study taken, the expectation is that the normal study time (including attendance at lectures and tutorials, self-study and revision) is 200 hours.

Opportunities for Formative Feedback

Students will be able to reflect on their progress through feedback from the team logbooks and through the workshop sessions.
Students may also voluntarily write one or two essays (1500-2000 words) during the course of the module. These will be marked and returned with written comments.
