Objectives
On completion of this module students will have gained an understanding of basic questions in the philosophy of religion, particularly in relation to the development of fundamental theology in the Christian tradition. They will be able to handle biblical, patristic, historical and contemporary texts in order to discuss the logic of particular Christian understandings and to extend their own capacity to articulate central doctrines-of humanity, of the person and work of Jesus Christ, of the Trinity.Syllabus
The module will discuss such topics as the nature of belief; arguments for the existence of God; prayer and miracles; theological language; Christology; atonement; Trinity.
Teaching methods
Lectures: 17 x 1 hour; Seminars: 5 x 1 hour.
Methods of assessment
Assessed work totalling 6,000 words typically one essay of 3,000 words (at 60%); and too shorter papers of 1500 words each (at 40%).
