Module summary

Are you interested in developing your writing and analytical skills in Arabic?If you have such interest, then ARAB3020 will help you to achieve that. The module will introduce you to different genres of advanced Arabic texts. Also, it will help you to enhance your oral and aural skills.This module will train you in how to interpret and analyse critically different genre of Arabic texts. The focus is mainly on the function of language in texts.

Objectives

To provide advanced training in oral, aural and written Arabic in order to refine reading, comprehension, speaking and writing skills.

Learning outcomes
By the completion of this module students should have acquired the ability to deal with complex syntactical features, critical analysis of texts of different registers; ability to deal with language in different contexts.

Students are also expected to write coherent and cohesive essays with a reasonable style.

By the end of this module students are also expected to achieve fluency in speaking Arabic.

Syllabus

- Oral Practice: Discussions and analysis of general issues, with organised debates and individual presentations.
- Written Practice: The writing of summaries, reports and analytical essays.
