ARCS2208 - Diagnostic Imaging Technique 2

This module is not approved as a discovery module

Module summary

This module allows students to explore the use of specialist imaging of the body systems, develop their skills in MSK Imaging and learn about the role of the radiographer in each area to develop their wider appreciation of the role of the radiographer within the patient pathway.

Objectives

The aim of this module is to provide the knowledge base and underpinning theory for imaging the body systems. Students will consider the safe use of pharmacological preparations (including contrast agents) used to demonstrate anatomy, pathology and physiology. They will be expected to learn how to adapt to individual patient needs with consideration of how to evaluate the patient and their own limitations.

Learning outcomes
At the end of this module the student should be able to:
1. Discuss the theoretical knowledge and application of the principles of examinations requiring the safe use of pharmacological preparations.
2. Analyse diagnostic pathways, cultural perspectives, communication & patient management in specialist imaging.
3. Identify and evaluate appropriate imaging pathways for specific pathologies.
4. Discuss the concepts, which support safe and effective diagnostic imaging techniques in imaging body systems and the developing role of the radiographer.

Skills outcomes
Knowledge of imaging pathways to help facilitate patient care
Understand the safe use of contrast agents

Private study

The students will be directed to online learning to prepare for the planned lectures & tutorials and consolidate the content from previous lectures; this will form the basis of private study.

Private study should be utilised to write up lecture notes and do pre- and post-session reading on the topics covered as well as in preparation for the summative assessment

The nature of this module is such that there is direct application to clinical practice. Students are encouraged to use every image viewed to assess knowledge of the anatomy covered in this module. In this way students can identify areas they need to concentrate on and seek additional support

Opportunities for Formative Feedback

Diagnostic Pathways presentation: Group work, Will incorporate the learning outcomes. Groups split into equal numbers and delivered over 2 tutorial sessions with discussions. Will include service user feedback to how the student dealt with the scenarios/conversation.

Mock exam1 hour. In same format as summative assessment.
