Module summary
he MA Practice-led Dissertation will enable you to make an original contribution to knowledge and understanding of an aspect of your field of study. The dissertation workshops and individual supervisions will support the development of independent research and critical and conceptual thinking. Alongside this, there will be an emphasis on assessing the critical and practical skills necessary to independently develop new projects and interventions. Drawing from practice-led approaches, you will develop a specific area of research, with the support of your supervisor.Objectives
On successful completion of this module, you will be able to make an original contribution to knowledge and understanding of an aspect of your field of study. Relevant fields include arts management, audiences and participation, art and curatorial practice, from arts institutions, to heritage and museums, to cultures of science and technology. You will develop your research skills by identifying research questions, and developing your topic through practice-led approaches.Learning outcomes
On successful completion of the module you will be able to
1. Identify and discuss a defined area of research
2. Distinguish, appraise and implement critically relevant practice-led methods, methodologies and resources
3. Formulate and clarify reasoned analysis, academic writing and practice-led critical reflection in the context of your field of study
4. Assemble the skills and resources necessary to undertake further discipline specific practice-led research or professional practice.
Skills learning outcomes
On successful completion of the module you will be able to demonstrate the following skills learning outcomes:
5. Critical Thinking: The ability to weigh up different arguments and perspectives, using supporting evidence to form opinions, arguments, theories and ideas.
6. Academic Language: The ability to use the oral, written, auditory, and visual language proficiency needed to be able to learn effectively and demonstrate understanding.
