Objectives
On completion of this module, in the area of bionanoscience, students should be able to:- understand the basic ideas associated with biomedical nanotechnology. Know how biomedical nanotechnology is placed in context with reference to nanotechnology. Understand the benefits of bionanotechnology to medicine;
- demonstrate a knowledge of the physical, chemical, electronic and biological principles which relate nanotechnology to medicine;
- understand some of the important applications of biomedical nanotechnology.
Syllabus
- Biosensing devices: mediators, coated electrodes, voltametric and amperometric techniques, optical sensors, SPR, Fluorescence, Mechanical sensors, QCM.
- Tissue engineering: wound healing, implants, artificial joint.
- Gene technologies: Microarray diagnostics.
- Gene technologies: Combinatorial display.
