Learning outcomes
On completion of the module students will be able to:
- design and carry out simple ecological field research projects.
- develop research proposals, conduct field work, analyse their data, and present their findings both in written form and in the form of a research seminar.
The module will be sited abroad to provide exposure to a wide range of habitats helping provide experience in global ecological diversity.
Syllabus
The Mediterranean ecology field course will take place at an international research station in southern Spain, so as to expose ecology students to a range of unfamiliar habitats and species.
Students will work in small groups. Each group will choose a research topic from a list of options, or develop a topic of their own in consultation with the module manager.
Students will do background reading relevant to the subject prior to the field course, and spend the duration of the field course carrying out the research.
At the end of the field course, each group will present a short seminar and a report outlining its findings.
