Formative SAQ’s and MCQ’s
- Explain the physiological concepts of structure and function using examples drawn from the principal body systems and functions.
- Appraise the physiological adaptions to these systems that occur during exercise and how these systems can be disturbed by disease.
- Describe the core concepts of pharmacokinetics & pharmacodynamics
- Explain the key principles of clinical pharmacology
- Relate how drugs are discovered and developed within the modern pharmaceutical industry.
- Recall examples of drugs and how they can be used to treat and modify the pathophysiology of various common diseases and conditions.
- Explain the neuroscience concepts of structure and function within the nervous system at the cellular, circuit, and network-level.
- Describe how structure and function can be measured experimentally.
- Describe how structure and function can change during development and pathological dysfunction.
- Demonstrate a good understanding of: the diversity of prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells; the basic concepts of chemistry and how this helps us understand the structures and functions of the principal macromolecules of cells including proteins and an introduction to enzymes; DNA replication and cell division;
the structures of DNA and RNA, and the enzymology of aspects of their replication, transcription and translation; energy metabolism in micro-organisms, plants and animals; carbohydrates: structures and roles; lipids and cell membranes, including transporters, channels and cell signalling; intracellular structures, including organelles, cytoskeleton and molecular motors; how to appreciate genetic and biochemical approaches involved in exploring cell biology
Reflective Essays (x 2)
- Develop and reflect on research knowledge, skills & behaviours relevant both to the discipline, and for careers beyond the Biomedical and Exercise Sciences;

Opportunities for Formative Feedback
MCQ’s in teaching blocks –formative in teaching blocks Structure and Function of Human Body systems, Basis of Life, Introduction to Pharmacology and Biology of the Mind.The students will receive formative feedback on SAQ’s throughout both semesters- peer marked and generic feedback

SAQ’s will be problem based exercises with guided questions. Practice of these individually and in groups will be done formatively and peer/generic feedback given SAQ’s will test the LO’s.
