Module summary
This module provides the foundational chemistry consistent with A-level standard to ensure the basic skills are met to pursue an engineering discipline at degree level.Objectives
To solve scientific problems using foundational chemistry principles.Learning outcomes
On successful completion of the module students will have demonstrated the following learning outcomes relevant to the subject:
1. Have a knowledge and understanding of scientific principles, namely the relevant aspects of chemistry, to enable the understanding of engineering principles.

On successful completion of the module students will have demonstrated the following skills:
a. Technical skills
b. Problem solving & analytical skills
Syllabus
Atomic structure, electronic structure, bonding, shape prediction of simple molecules, balancing equations, chemical and physical properties of matter, intramolecular and intermolecular forces, concentration, oxidation and reduction, potential energy and molecular conformation, carbon containing compounds, polarity, chemical reactions of organic molecules, rate laws for chemical reactions, acids and bases.
