Module summary

This module provides the fundamental mathematical methods to solve engineering problems.

Objectives

To solve differentiation and integration problems.

To apply numerical techniques for solving algebraic and differential equations, and sets of equations.

Learning outcomes
On successful completion of the module students will have demonstrated the following learning outcomes relevant to the subject:

1. Have a knowledge and understanding of mathematics necessary for the analysis of, and to support applications of, key engineering principles and processes.


Skills Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of the module students will have demonstrated the following skills:

a. Technical/IT skills
b. Problem solving & analytical skills


Syllabus

Differentiation and Integration; Partial Differentiation; Complex numbers; Techniques of Integration and Numerical Integration; First and second order differential equations; Partial differential equations; Applications.
