Module summary
Projects can be viewed as complex technical, organisational and social systems consisting of multiple inter-related parts which require integration. This module provides an understanding of different approaches and techniques to systems integration in projects and how it is managed in different contexts.Objectives
This module aims to provide students with a theoretical and practical understanding of key concepts relating to systems integration in projects and adopts a systems of systems perspective. Starting from integrated planning including contract management students will learn how to collate a suite of plans and processes capturing the fundamental components of a project. Students will also be introduced to systems thinking as an approach to solve problems which takes into account the overall system perspective as well as its individual parts.Learning outcomes
On successful completion of the module students will have demonstrated the following learning outcomes:
1. Apply a systems perspective to projects within organisations
2. Develop an integrated project plan considering the choices to be made when selecting the size, structure and content. (APM Integrated Planning TK1.3)
3. Critically evaluate the purpose and importance of an integrated plan, techniques to monitor such a plan and different elements used when updating an integrated plan. (APM Integrated Planning TK1.4, TK1.5).
4. Critically analyse the influence of governance on contract management and its importance to an organisation (APM Contract management TK1.1, TK1.7)
5. Critique different approaches to contract management considering the size, complexity and significance of a project. (APM Contract management TK1.2, TK1.3)
6. Apply a variety of methods and concepts to frame complex problem situations as systems
