Module summary
The purpose of this module is to develop competence of students in the subject area of procurement management. The aim of the module is to facilitate understanding of the role and impact of procurement across the lifecycle of infrastructure projects. Using the framework of the standard RIBA Plan of Work, the module highlights the key intervention points, from the procurement management process perspective, that are likely to contribute to successful delivery of infrastructure projects.Objectives
This module has two objectives. The first objective is to promote understanding of standard frameworks of procurement management, contract management, supply chain management and decision making. The second objective is to integrate the standard frameworks into effective procurement management plans. The objectives will be achieved through a variety of teaching methods (including lectures, case study and tutorials) and learning activities (including group work, role play and peer review).Learning outcomes
On successful completion of the module students will have demonstrated the following learning outcomes relevant to the subject:
1. critically analyse the effective management of the construction process and the environmental, economic and social impacts within a global context. (CIOB Learning Outcome B)
2. appraise the collaboration of professional disciplines in the built environment and the construction industry in a national and international environment. (CIOB Learning Outcome A)
3. examine the legal (local and global) context of the construction and property industries (CIOB Learning Outcome C)
4. appraise construction and property organisations and the roles and responsibilities within and between them (CIOB Learning Outcome D)
Skills learning outcomes
On successful completion of the module students will have demonstrated the following skills:
a. weigh up different arguments and perspectives using supporting evidence to form opinions, arguments and ideas
b. write in a clear, concise, focused and structured manner that is supported by relevant evidence
c. use the written language proficiency needed to be able to learn effectively and demonstrate understanding
d. understand the moral principles that govern a person's behaviour or the conducting of an activity in any given context
