Module summary
This module guides students through the professional practices of developing an advanced digital media product which is informed by, and contextualised within, relevant theoretical issues and debates. Working independently, students produce a detailed specification for a digital media product, create professional project documentation, pitch their ideas in verbal and written formats, implement prototypes, develop an advanced digital media product, critically evaluate their work and deliver oral presentations at key stages. All aspects of this process should be informed by relevant research devised by the student.Objectives
This module supports students through the processes of developing a self-directed digital research project which is informed by, and contextualised within, relevant theoretical issues and debates.Students will conduct critical research, develop a proposal document, communicate their ideas through verbal and written forms (where appropriate), develop prototypes, create a final digital outcome and critically reflect on and evaluate their work. All aspects of this process should be informed by appropriate research devised by the student.
Learning outcomes
On completion of this module, students should be able to:
• Conduct research to inform the specification, development, testing and evaluation of an advanced digital media product, independently devising appropriate research methods
• Produce professional project documentation including a detailed specification and relevant planning materials
• Develop an advanced digital media product demonstrating the ability to work independently with self-discipline, self-direction and reflexivity
• Demonstrate the ability to communicate ideas effectively using a variety of written and oral methods

Private study
Students will work independently throughout the year, conducting research, preparing for their presentations, producing project documentation, and developing the product itself, solving problems that arise during the production process. The student will arrange meetings with their supervisor to receive feedback on their progress.Opportunities for Formative Feedback

Students failing the pitch document and products assessments will be required to improve and resubmit their original submission, working with the feedback they have been offered and the support of their supervisor. It is not expected that students will produce a new project idea. The verbal presentation may be substituted for a screen-recorded or poster presentation in the event of either: 1. A resit assessment where the student or tutor is unable to attend university during the resit period. 2. A student having specific needs which might disadvantage their assessment in this format, as identified or corroborated by colleagues in student support.
