Objectives
On completion of this module, students should be able to ...1. carry out and present the appropriate research required to identify and develop a story idea
2. produce a well-structured and coherent short film script (30 – 50 pages) or television drama pilot or sitcom episode (30 – 45 pages + 5-page series bible) using the relevant standard layouts.
Learning outcomes
1. Apply knowledge and understanding in order to initiate and carry out an extended piece of work or project: a short screenplay or television drama pilot + series bible, or sitcom episode + series bible.
2. Using scriptwriting software, create a coherent short screenplay that applies appropriate narrative conventions.
3. Demonstrate knowledge of industry screenwriting practices.
4. Produce work to professional standards under professional time constraints: producing the industry formatted script of a prescribed length to a prescribed deadline.
Skills outcomes
Use of screenwriting software, e.g. CeltX, Adobe Story, Final Draft.
Formatting of script to appropriate professional standard.
Syllabus
This module aims to develop students' fictional scriptwriting abilities as they have been studied at the first and second levels.
Students work essentially on their own as individuals, but under the guidance of a supervisor. After the initial approval of the idea by their supervisor, students will work under supervision during Semesters 1 and 2, attending such classes and submitting such written work as is required by the module.
There will be some group tutorials across the first and second semester. During these tutorials there may be some small group work activities. These may include pitching story ideas to each other in small groups and offering feedback on pitches to develop the stories further; and undertaking table reads of draft scenes from each other’s scripts and offering feedback for development.

Opportunities for Formative Feedback
Opportunities for Formative Feedback:Students offer draft ideas verbally in class and receive tutor and peer feedback.
Students submit written story ideas and receive verbal tutor feedback.
Students submit 1st draft script (and series bible for television options) in standard script format and receive verbal tutor feedback in an individual supervision session.
