Module summary
In this module, you will learn how to design, implement and deploy web applications that work effectively on smartphones and tablets. You will also learn how to develop applications that integrate with and use the services offered by popular social networks.Objectives
On completion of this module, students will be able to:-Build a simple AJAX application
-Appreciate the differences between native mobile applications and mobile web applications
-Understand how web applications that work well on mobile devices can be designed, implemented and deployed
-Use responsive design frameworks to create a mobile-friendly application
-Understand how integration with social networks can be achieved
-Create applications that use the APIs offered by popular social networks
Learning outcomes
On completion of the year/programme students should have provided evidence of being able to:
-demonstrate a broad understanding of the concepts, information, practical competencies and techniques which are standard features in a range of aspects of the discipline;
-apply generic and subject specific intellectual qualities to standard situations outside the context in which they were originally studied;
-appreciate and employ the main methods of enquiry in the subject and critically evaluate the appropriateness of different methods of enquiry;
-adjust to professional and disciplinary boundaries

Characteristics of modern web applications; AJAX approach to application development; Mobile web applications vs. native applications; responsive
design principles & techniques; using CSS & JavaScript frameworks to
implement mobile-friendly designs; packaging and deployment onto mobile
devices; accessing mobile device hardware from web applications (GPS,
accelerometer, camera, etc); features of social networks; integration of
social networks with web applications; use of social network APIs (Twitter,
Facebook, Google, etc)
