Module summary
This module requires students to work in groups to define a problem and explore a solution. Emphasising teamwork, it guides students through the development of a collective software project. Students engage in planning, coding, and project management, gaining practical experience in a real-world, team-based setting. This module enhances problem-solving abilities, communication, and project coordination within the context of computer science applications. Objectives
Learning outcomes
On successful completion of the module students will have demonstrated the following learning outcomes:
1. Apply a comprehensive knowledge of mathematics, statistics, natural science and engineering principles to the solution of complex problems. (M1)
2. Formulate and analyse complex problems to reach substantiated conclusions. (M2)
3. Select and critically evaluate technical literature and other sources of information to solve complex problems. (M4)
4. Design solutions for complex problems that evidence some originality and meet a combination of societal, user, business and customer need as appropriate. (M5)
5. Apply an integrated or systems approach to the solution of complex problems. (M6)

Syllabus
Students will conduct a group project, supervised by an academic member of staff, allowing them to pull together the knowledge and skills gain during their programme of study.
Projects will require students to undertake practical work resulting in the creation of an artefact and will require all aspects of the implementation lifecycle.
Students on a specialised programme of study will be required to conduct a project in the area of their specialism.
Project activities include:
- Critical literature review and background reading
- Project formulation, including aims/objectives
- Project planning
- Carrying out design and implementation work
- Analysis and interpretation of results;
- Academic report writing and dissemination of work
