Module summary
This module provides students with the opportunity to apply the knowledge and skills they have developed through the programme to the development of the perfect sustainable product. Through this process they will apply the core programme themes of environment, society, business and culture, and will employ the concepts and technologies to create a blueprint for sustainable fashion products. The module goes beyond simple product design by incorporating product development tools to create a detailed specification and to include analysis of the product to quantify the reduction in product footprint and to show how ethical considerations have been addressed.Objectives
The module aims to develop the students' knowledge and proficiency by applying their learning in the technology of fashion and product development concepts and techniques to develop a product with ideal social and environmental aspects.In addition, the module aims to develop a number of important skills, including a professional approach, autonomy, interpersonal communication, self awareness & cooperative learning, an ability to approach multi-faceted & complex situations, and creative problem solving.
Learning outcomes
On successful completion of the module students will have demonstrated the following learning outcomes relevant to the subject:
1) Justify concepts, arguments, and outcomes in a variety of forms informed by in depth knowledge of sustainability and the fashion industry.
2) Present comprehensive and coherent arguments about the role of sustainability for fashion and its impact on society and environment, and business.
3) Employ their knowledge and understanding of sustainable fashion to critically evaluate arguments, assumptions, abstract concepts and data, to make judgements, and to frame appropriate questions to identify a solution(s) to a problem.
4) Apply effective written/ visual/ oral communication skills to present a coherent and sustained argument.
5) Incorporate different stakeholder perspectives in their project development.
6) Reflect upon their experiences and learned knowledge and use this as a basis for personal development.
