Module summary
This module provides students with understanding and insight into the range of research methods that can be applied within both professional and academic research contexts. It introduces a broad range of advanced methodologies, concentrating on approaches and topics appropriate to academia, design, enterprise, management, and marketing. Students will develop essential knowledge, skills, and competencies to enable them to become critical, reflective, and creative researchers, able to problem-solve and contextualise research for a range of real-world contexts and applications.Objectives
The objectives of this module are to:1. Introduce students to a range of research methods appropriate to the study of design, enterprise, management, and marketing.
2. Develop intellectual and practical skills relevant to research problem-solving in academic and professional contexts
3. Support students in identifying their research interests and shaping their expertise for future applications.
Learning outcomes
On completion of this module, students will have provided evidence of being able to:
1. Assess research methods and methodological approaches based on their characteristics and contexts of application.
2. Select research methods and design methodologies, evaluating their effectiveness within an investigation.
3. Design and develop their own methodological approach within a research proposal, appraising the selection and developing appropriate conceptual and practical tools.
4. Develop a professional approach to research with consideration to relevant ethical issues, rigour, and academic and professional practices.
Skills Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of the module students will have demonstrated the following skills learning outcomes:
5. Select appropriate intellectual and practical tools to solve research problems in design, enterprise, management, and marketing.
6. Communicate clearly and concisely, articulating both research problems and possible solutions.

Opportunities for Formative Feedback
Verbal and formative feedback from the course team is delivered through tutorial sessions throughout semesters 1 and 2. Written and verbal feedback (with the opportunity to voice record) is provided for poster presentation, with opportunities for improving before final proposal submission.Methods of assessment
