Objectives
On completion of this module, students should be able to analyse in detail contemporary Chinese literary texts and to discuss them with reference to the various contexts in which they were produced.Learning outcomes
To write Chinese fluently and accurately in all language tasks and, in translation between English and Chinese, to use both languages accurately, with correct spelling and grammar.
Syllabus
This module introduces students to contemporary literary texts from Mainland China, Taiwan, Hong Kong and the Chinese diaspora, with genres extending from short stories to prose and poetry. In addition to close reading of literary texts, there will be discussion on the relationship between contemporary Chinese literature and the West. Students will read primary texts in Chinese while some secondary sources in English will be introduced.
