Module summary
This module provides a practically oriented overview of methodological issues in the teaching of English. It also involves micro-teaching sessions in which students plan and teach lessons to their peers.Objectives
On completion of this module, you should have both a theoretical and practical understanding of contemporary TESOL methodology. Specifically, you will:- Become familiar with a range of techniques for developing learners' control of language systems and skills.
- Develop an awareness of basic issues in classroom management, including task-setting, monitoring, and providing feedback to learners.
- Reflect on observation and practical teaching experiences gained on the module and demonstrate the ability to draw up action plans for future professional develo
Learning outcomes
On successful completion of the module, you will be able to:
1. demonstrate in-depth, specialist knowledge and mastery of teaching methodologies relevant to TESOL;
2. design and deliver a lesson with your peers, applying teaching methods and techniques covered in the module;
3. engage in reflective practice by analysing your micro-teaching experience and applying knowledge from the module to gain deeper insights into your development.
Skills Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of the module, you will be able to:
1. develop the ability to critically evaluate and articulate your own development based on microteaching experience;
2. collaborate in a group setting to plan and teach an English language lesson.
