Objectives

The objectives of this module are for students to further develop their C++ programming skills and learn more advanced software engineering and embedded software techniques. Additionally students will complete an individual project in order to consolidate their learning and develop a range of project skills.


Learning outcomes
On completion of this module students should be able to:

1. Write, compile, run and de-bug C++ programs using standard programming techniques.
2. Implement a range of embedded software techniques on a microcontroller.
3. Manage an embedded systems design project requiring initiative, creativity, problem-solving, time-management and project-management skills.
4. Communicate the results of a technical project in various forms with specialist and non-specialist audiences.

Object-oriented programming in C++
C++ standard libraries
Advanced embedded Software techniques
Serial communication protocols

Private study

Students are expected to use private study time to consolidate their understanding of course materials, to undertake preparatory work for seminars, workshops, tutorials, examples classes and practical classes, and also to prepare for in-course and summative assessments.




Opportunities for Formative Feedback

Students studying ELEC modules will receive formative feedback in a variety of ways, including the use of self-test quizzes on Minerva, practice questions/worked examples and (where appropriate) through verbal interaction with teaching staff and/or post-graduate demonstrators.
