Pre-requisite qualifications
- Prior learning to Level 6 (undergraduate degree or equivalent)- Either: a post graduate teaching qualification (Diploma; Post Graduate Certificate; Masters) and/or minimum 2 years fulltime or cumulative experience of teaching in higher education or teaching English for Specific Purposes.
- Minimum English language expertise at 7 overall in IELTS with a minimum of 7 in all components; C1 CEFR

Module summary
By completing the module, participants will reach an in-depth understanding and be able to critique the concept of academic leadership and what it means in an EAP context. Students will focus on developing and articulating their own theories of leadership over the course of the module. They will apply these to their own practice. Students will also be asked to demonstrate the development in their understanding of the field gained over the duration of the module and to show how their own questioning and challenging of current knowledge in EAP has progressed and/or changed their own practices.Objectives
In this module, you will consider contexts of academic leadership. This includes analysis of different models and manifestations of leadership and examination of the range of professional relationships within diverse educational, and EAP contexts. You will also consider the ethos and meaning of our working lives. You will apply this to your own context and practices.Learning outcomes
1. Evaluate and analyse the theory and practice of leadership in higher education and apply relevant models to examples of practice.
2. Take a proactive and self-reflective role in working and to develop professional relationships with others.
3. Proactively formulate ideas and questions around leadership and investigate, evaluate and communicate these.
Syllabus
We will work with three blocks at a macro/meso/micro level:
The following three blocks contain 3-4 units, indicative of an 11-week taught period.
1. Block 1: Academic Leadership in Higher Education and Professional Contexts: Social Approaches
2. Block 2: Academic Leadership in EAP: Third space.
3. Block 3: Leadership in your context

Opportunities for Formative Feedback
For the summative assessment, students will be expected to incorporate work from formative tasks. This includes analysis of a case study - either through an interview and analysis of the emerging themes or via discourse analysis of documentation relating to leadership in HE and/or EAP.
