Pre-requisite qualifications
- Prior learning to Level 6 (undergraduate degree or equivalent)- Either: a post graduate teaching qualification (Diploma; Post Graduate Certificate; Masters) and/or minimum 2 years fulltime or cumulative experience of teaching in higher education or teaching English for Specific Purposes.
- Minimum English language expertise at 7 overall in IELTS with a minimum of 7 in all components; C1 CEFR

Module summary
The purpose of the module is to investigate a range of ethical issues and aspects of malpractice related to academic contexts, and to understand how these relate to individuals’ professional practice. Within this, the module also aims to assess the nature and affordances of case study research in these areas of enquiry.Objectives
Students will develop their knowledge and understanding of a range of ethical issues and aspects of malpractice in academic contexts by investigating various aspects of teaching and research practice. Within this, they will develop their ability to analyse current issues, evaluate relevant research and to demonstrate application of knowledge to the field of practice.Learning outcomes
1.Demonstrate in-depth knowledge of key ethical issues related to academic contexts and teaching practices.
2.Demonstrate the ability to apply knowledge of ethical issues in HE and EAP to professional practice.
3. Demonstrate an understanding of the features of case study research methods.
Syllabus
The module critically analyses a number of ethical considerations related to teaching, research and scholarship in HE.
Module themes include the role of:
- professional values
- code of ethics for teaching and research purposes,
- academic integrity discourses in teaching and research
- contemporary ethical discussions
- case study research approaches in complex ethical matters.

Opportunities for Formative Feedback
Students will be invited to submit an initial plan and a draft no later than week 10. They will receive verbal feedback on this in a tutorial.Tutors will provide informal feedback on online discussion board posts.
