Module summary
This module is for students who already have a GCSE in Spanish, A2 (CEF) or equivalent and wish to take their Spanish to the next level.The emphasis is on achieving a good level of communication and accuracy in speaking, listening, reading and writing.Communication skills which will be developed include discussion, interview techniques, presentation skills and reporting skills.Objectives
To consolidate knowledge of Spanish at GCSE level and develop skills and competence up to AS level or B1 (CEF).On completion of the module, students should be able to deal with information of a general nature in a familiar context and identify and note main points and opinions; sustain longer conversations in Spanish and handle familiar and unfamiliar situations with some ease; exchange opinions and ideas on a range of topics.
Students should be able to report facts and opinions with accuracy.
Learning outcomes
On completion of the module students should be able to:
- Make themselves understood by a sympathetic native speaker on the everyday topics covered
- Understand the main points of standard speech on familiar topics and be able to understand the main points from TV news broadcasts
- Demonstrate awareness of cultural and linguistic differences between the use of Spanish and English
- Demonstrate greater understanding and knowledge of key grammar points with appropriate usage
- Demonstrate proficiency in listening through accurately extracting key information from audio sources
- Read and understand short newspaper articles
- Write short pieces with a good degree of accuracy using a range of vocabulary and Spanish expression appropriately.
