Module summary
This module addresses the question: What can you do with a geography degree? It explores the world of post-university employment, and how geographers can succeed after graduation. You will be provided with a suite of insights, skills and experiences that will better prepare you for how to use your geography degree in a future career. This includes: awareness of how the diverse skills possessed by geographers can be most effectively presented to employers; enhanced understanding of the range of employment and other opportunities available to geographers (e.g. industrial placements), and how geographical skills can be used effectively in a diversity of workplaces; gaining familiarity with the process of searching, applying and interviewing for a graduate job; and an opportunity to demonstrate skills possessed by geographers whilst undertaking an applied role-playing project and associated pitch presentation. You will hear directly from geography graduates who have succeeded in a range of types of employment and they will share their experiences and their insights to help you choose your own path after university.Objectives
This module strives to provide students with:- awareness of how the diverse skills possessed by geographers can be most effectively presented to employers

- Opportunity to demonstrate skills possessed by geographers whilst undertaking an applied role-playing project and associated pitch presentation.

- Ability to demonstrate commercial awareness in relation to a specific organisation and sector;

Syllabus
This module consists of 8 x 1 hour lectures that are delivered by the Careers Centre staff, 8 x one hour lectures given by a wide range of BA and BSc Alumni, and a 1/2 hour assessment project pitch event. The module will address employment and career skills (CVs, interviews etc); career paths and opportunities within a range of organisations. Some sessions will be delivered by external partners.
