Objectives
1. To develop professional assessment skills based on theoretical perspectives and integrate learning, making analytic connections between academic material and practice.2. To develop the student's capacity for analysis and reflection on practice issues and the student's ability to actively contribute to the work of a social work agency.
3. To reflect on and assess own development including managing self in complex organisations and in challenging situations and considering future continuous professional development.
4. To complete a 100 day practice placement in line with the Professional Capabilities Framework and SWE Professional Standards at qualifying level standard and understand their obligations as answer Registrant.
Learning outcomes
1. Students will apply a range of social work practice theory in a critically reflective way.
2. Students will demonstrate a critically reflective understanding of self in relation to being a social work practitioner including constructive use of feedback.
3. Students will demonstrate competence in social work practice at beginning social worker level
4. Students will critically analyse the concept of the reflective practitioner and its relationship to evidence based practice and the research informed practitioner.
5. Students will critically reflect on the place of social work in organisational structures and the tensions and issues in contemporary social work practice.
6. Students will critically evaluate their duties and obligations as professional social workers in relation to the Professional Capabilities Framework, SWE Professional standards and SWE expectations of Registrants.
7. Students will be equipped with the skills to apply for employment opportunities and understand their obligations and opportunities in relation to Continuous Professional Development. Including an understanding of the Social Work Knowledge and Skills Statements (KSS) with which they will be assessed once in employment.

Private study
Online research and reading both to support the taught element of the module, but also to support the student in understanding the context and legal framework that underpins their placement. Private study time is incorporated into the placement hours.Opportunities for Formative Feedback

There will only be two attempts at placement. - A placement second attempt will normally be via an extension to the placement agreed at and by the Practice Assessment Panel to determine student shortfall in key roles and units - Such an extension will normally be for a maximum of 30 days and will usually directly follow the placement - Only in exceptional circumstances to be determined by the Practice Assessment Panel and ratified by the exam board will students be allowed to retake the whole placement. Students will have a maximum of two attempts at the portfolio - The portfolio will be assessed by members of the Practice Assessment Panel Essay - Students will complete a 3000-word summative assignment on their experiences of placement in relation to elements of the PCF, KSS, knowledge and skills and SWE professional Standards. All elements of the module have to be passed to complete the module. There is no compensation between assessment elements. Students will have a maximum of two attempts at the essay - The essay will be marked by the personal tutor - All elements of the module have to be passed to complete the module - There is no compensation between assessment elements - Students will be offered tutorial support prior to submission of portfolio, however the submitted portfolio remains the responsibility of the student
