Pre-requisite qualifications
Bachelor's degree usually at 2.1 with hons and level 3 certificate in counselling skills or equivalent.Students for whom English is not their first language must meet the University's entry criteria for English language ibtTOEFL of 92 (21 for listening, 21 for reading, 22 for writing and 23 for speaking)
It is desirable for students to have had experience of working in a helping role prior to application
Students will undergo full DBS check and occupational health review prior to commencing the programme

Module summary
In this module, the focus will be on advancing your therapy skills so that you and we can be confident of your ability to work with clients and building a reflective space to help you develop greater self and intersubjective awareness. You will begin to apply a transtheoretical relational approach to practice building upon your therapy skills from year 1. Self and intersubjective awareness growth will be facilitated through personal development groups. There will also be sessions including how to use and interpret the counselling skills audit measure, an introduction to transtheoretical relational approaches to practice, applying common factors research to practice, values-based practice and feedback in therapy.Objectives
This module is for students to be able to demonstrate their capacity to offer collaborative counselling relationship to advance their counselling skills. The module will develop and support the student's counselling practice and self and intersubjective awareness in counselling relationships.Learning outcomes
1. Demonstrate a collaborative relationship with clients
2. Demonstrate self and intersubjective awareness in counselling/psychotherapy relationships and supervision
3. Demonstrate an ability to link self and intersubjective awareness with psychotherapeutic theory
4. Demonstrate critical reflection on self and in relation to others in personal development group, supervision and in personal therapy
5. Critically reflect on the use of personal development groups
Skills outcomes
Students will be required to demonstrate a level of counselling skills and self and intersubjective awareness commensurate with independent counselling practice with clients
Syllabus
1. Specific guidance provided in how to administer the adherence measures through the interpretation and provision of both qualitative and quantitative metrics when self-evaluating practice and offering feedback to peers
2. Counselling skills development in peer practice groups and self/peer evaluation using a counselling skills adherence measure
3. Linking relational psychotherapeutic counselling theory to practice
4. Group and individual external supervision of clinical practice
5. Development of self and intersubjective understanding through personal development groups and ongoing personal therapy

Students are required to complete independent reading, session preparation, review skills and client recordings and prepare assignmentsOpportunities for Formative Feedback
Peer and tutor feedback on group supervision sessions. (LO1, 2)Participation in personal development group. (LO3, 4 and 5)
Students will also be assessed formatively through their practice portfolio assessing LO3, LO4, LO5. The formative assessment element of a portfolio prepares you for the summative assessment in HECS5337 ensuring you are keeping an accurate record of your practice and supervision hours. The submission of the portfolio allow the team to ensure you are on track to have the correct amount of hours at the end of the programme and offer additional support where this may be required.
