Pre-requisite qualifications
Bachelor's degree usually at 2.1 with hons and level 3 certificate in counselling skills or equivalent.Students for whom English is not their first language must meet the University's entry criteria for English language ibtTOEFL of 92 (21 for listening, 21 for reading, 22 for writing and 23 for speaking)
It is desirable for students to have had experience of working in a helping role prior to application
Students will undergo full DBS check and occupational health review prior to commencing the programme

Module summary
In this module, the focus will be on further developing your therapy skills so that you and we can be confident of your ability to work with clients independently and building a reflective space to help you develop greater self and intersubjective awareness. You will continue to develop the application of psychotherapeutic counselling theory to practice building upon your skills from semester 1. Self and intersubjective awareness growth will be facilitated through personal development groups.Objectives
Building on Relational Counselling Skills Part 1 this module will develop and support the student's counselling practice and self and intersubjective awareness in counselling relationships through the use of group supervision and personal development groups.Learning outcomes
1. Demonstrate a collaborative relationship with clients sufficient to be an independent counselling/psychotherapy practitioner
2. Demonstrate advanced self and intersubjective awareness in counselling/psychotherapy relationships and supervision
3. Demonstrate an advanced ability to link self and intersubjective awareness with psychotherapeutic counselling theory
4. Demonstrate advanced critical reflection on self and in relation to others in personal development group, supervision and in personal therapy
5. Critically reflect on how the personal development group has advanced your self- and intersubjective awareness in clinical practice
Skills outcomes
Students will be required to demonstrate a level of counselling skills and self and intersubjective awareness commensurate with beginning independent counselling practice with clients

1. Linking relational psychotherapeutic counselling theory to practice
2. Group and individual external supervision of clinical practice
3. Development of self and intersubjective understanding through personal development groups and ongoing personal therapy

You will receive formative feedback on your psychotherapeutic counselling skills throughout the semester through group supervision. You will be given the opportunity to submit an essay plan in advance of your summative assessment and receive feedback on this. Formative feedback on your portfolio will have been received in previous modules.Methods of assessment
