Objectives
- To develop knowledge of the immediate origins and course of the Second World War as viewed primarily from Berlin;- to challenge traditional interpretations of the so-called 'Axis conspiracy' and
- to analyse the nature and extent of Hitler's foreign political ambitions.

Syllabus
- To examine the relations between Nazi Germany, its principal partners in the Anti-Comintern Pact, Japan and Italy, and those Central European Powers associated with the Tripartite Pact of September 1940;
- to examine the aims of German foreign and alliance policy on the eve of and during the Second World War.
