Module summary
This module examines the main institutions of the criminal justice system and provides an introduction to the use and methods of punishment in modern society. In so doing, the module introduces a number of key issues and debates relating to the operation of the criminal justice system and the punishment of offenders.Objectives
Learning outcomes
By the end of this module, students should be able to:
- demonstrate knowledge of the aims and operation of the criminal justice system;
- evaluate the use of different forms of punishment in the criminal justice system;
- reflect on the criminal justice system in practice against official objectives;
- utilise criminal justice research evidence to discuss contemporary issues facing the criminal justice system in England and Wales.
