Objectives
This module will introduce students to the underlying principles and major sources of British Constitutional Law. In addition, students will learn about two fields of relevant public law: the law relating to police powers and public order, and the English law relating to judicial review.Learning outcomes
By the end of this module, students will be able to:
- competently recognise, identify and state the concepts, values, principles and legal rules relating to British Constitutional Law, police powers, public order and judicial review;
- apply appropriate terminology and legal reasoning to produce a coherent legal account of an issue of limited complexity relating to British Constitutional Law, police powers, public order, and judicial review;
- interpret legal and non-legal information and data about the British Constitution to provide a basic insight into its operation, and its relationship to relevant social and political contexts;
- recognise the European context in which British Constitutional Law operates.

Sources of British Constitutional Law;
Foundational Principles: Rule of Law; Separation of Powers; Parliamentary Sovereignty;
The Constitutional Relationship between Britain and the EU;
Primary and Delegated Legislation;
Executive Accountability;
Police Powers;
Public Order;
Grounds, Remedies and Procedures of Judicial Review.

Students must attempt both components of assessment and gain a mark of over 40% in each element. Where a student receives a mark of 39% or less for either assessment they will not be awarded the credits for the module and must resit the failed assessment(s) to achieve these credits.
