Module summary
This module will provide you with a critical understanding of the key legal concepts and theories of global governance. We will explore growing multi-level governance through examining legal frameworks and institutions. The roles of the intergovernmental organisations such as the United Nations, with States and Non-State Actors, will be analysed. The diversity of bodies and interests in making, interpreting and implementing international law require analysis as to whether there is a pattern of organised, rule-governed, coordinated behaviour. The role of politics, power and decolonising theories will also be considered, to understand how law is made at the global level. Objectives
This module will introduce and inform students with several contemporary theories of global governance and international law. After contextualising governance of global issues, the module will provide a foundation for understanding the problematic area of sources of international law and multiple sources of authority with the effects of fragmentation.
