Module summary

This module offers a unique chance to learn the skills of a new sport or activity, to learn about your own style of learning and to apply this to another of your academic modules. By taking part in a sport or activity that they have never participated in before students will learn and develop a range of new skills and abilities linked to their chosen sport/activity. Activities include Strength and Conditioning, Climbing, Squash and Multi Outdoor Activities (MOA). MOA includes hill walking, orienteering, climbing, caving, ghyll scrambling and night navigation amongst others. These activities are added and changed according to the weather.Through a number of taught lectures, activity meetings and tutorials, students will consider how they have gone about learning these new skills and how those approaches might be applied in the future both academically and in the workplace.Students will be assessed on the identification and application of this learning as well as reflecting on what this all means in the widest context for their professional development.Choosing from the above list, after enrolment you should email LEEDmodules@leeds.ac.uk with your first and second choice of activity. Objectives

The module aims to provide students with a deeper understanding of learning styles and how they can be applied in a range of different contexts.

The students will;
- Develop a range of new practical skills through their participation in a sporting activity;
- Develop a range of personal development goals;
- Study both skill acquisition and learning styles and relate this to their own practice;
- Develop their relective practice through developing and carrying out an action plan based on their learning.

Learning outcomes
On completion of this module, students should be able to:
- Develop a range of new skills through their participation in their chosen sport and activity;
- Identify and explain the key components of skill acquisition theory and how that relates to their chosen activity;
- Construct and administer a personal development plan based on their knowledge and understanding of their learning style;
- Reflect on their learning throughout the module and how that can support their development moving forward.

Opportunities for Formative Feedback
