Objectives
On completion of this module students will have practical experience of doing a piece of research in linguistics. They will have the opportunity to test theoretical principles in the analysis and description of real language phenomena.Syllabus
Data collection, analysis and description, applied to a linguistic topic of the student's choice. Use of appropriate scholarly material.

Private study
198 hours planning, carrying out and writing up a research project which has been agreed with the supervisor in advance.Opportunities for Formative Feedback
Submission of a plan for the dissertation in Week 3 of Semester 2.Submission of a short excerpt from the dissertation (about 1500 words) before easter for the supervisor to give feedback in terms of content and style.
