Module summary
Do you want to work more effectively with your colleagues and develop your own personal awareness? This module introduces you to skilled helping using counselling theories and skills, and their application in a range of one-to-one situations likely to arise in working with colleagues and service users in a variety of organisations. There is also the opportunity to reflect upon aspects of self that may enhance and hinder interactions with others.Objectives
This module introduces you to a range of counselling theories and models that can be used in skilled helping. You will be encouraged to evaluate strategies to support problem identification and action planning through active learning and group discussion in class. This will also enable you to analyse and apply the ethical principles of skilled helping, and you will practice doing this in class with peers. You will also explore your own personal values and attitudes which may impact on interaction with clients through in class reflection and through writing a reflective logLearning outcomes
On successful completion of the module students will have demonstrated the following learning outcomes relevant to the subject:
1. Identify and examine a range of one-to-one situations likely to arise in working with colleagues and service users
2. Analyse counselling theory from a range of traditions and demonstrate appropriate use in working one-to-one
3. Identify strategies for effective problem solving, goal setting and action planning
4. Analyse the significance of cultural, social and psychological difference in one-to-one relating
5. Identify and apply ethical principles in one-to-one relating
6. Identify aspects of self that may enhance or hinder interactions with others and reflect on the impact of this on one-to-one relating
Skills Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of the module students will have demonstrated the following skills learning outcomes:
1. Recognise and express knowledge and understanding and how it relates to personal experience and demonstrate learning and growth from the experience. (Academic)
2. Use the oral, written, auditory, and visual language proficiency needed to be able to learn effectively and demonstrate understanding. (Academic)
3. Evaluate the moral principles that govern a person's behaviour or the conducting of an activity in any given context. (Academic)
