Module summary
This module aims to develop a good knowledge of the structures and institutions of industry and to introduce a range of topical debates related to the central issue of enterprise and economic performance.Objectives
To examine changes in the structure of industry in Britain and the nature of government policy towards industry and enterprise.Learning outcomes
Upon completion of the this module students will be able to:
- Assess the relevance and contribution of enterprise and entrepreneurship in the UK economy
- Demonstrate how government policy impacts on the structure of UK industry
- Undertake assessment and analysis of UK industry performance over time
- Explain government policy relating to mergers and competition
Skills outcomes
Upon completion of the this module students will be able to:

- produce a written analysis of the way in which government policies impact on the structure and performance of UK industry
Transferable Skills
- Communicate clearly both orally and in writing
Syllabus
Topics to be covered will include;
The structure of industry in Britain, historical and comparative performance of British Industry, industrial policy, mergers and competition policies, firm ownership, small businesses, multinational firms, regulation of industry.

Students will have to complete an online assessment at the end of the module. This will take place during the examinations period and will be time bound. The assessment will not take 48 hours to complete, but students will have a 48 hour time period in which to complete it. The resit for this module will be 100% by examination.
