Objectives

The module aims to build on students' knowledge of business strategy, budgeting and performance evaluation and the practical difficulties that companies can encounter in implementing a strategy in a competitive environment primarily through the development of skills. It enables students to create their own strategy and business plan which they can apply to a real life structured scenario.

Learning outcomes
Upon completion of this module students will be able to:
- Summarise alternative business strategies and the implications of these for shareholders

Upon completion of this module students will be able to:

- Extract and analyse relevant information from structured and unstructured scenarios and data in order to identify problems and define solutions
- Competently apply numerical and statistical skills to manipulate and interrogate financial and other numerical data
- Work effectively in a team
- Present coherently to an audience
- Present quantitative and qualitative information, together with analysis, argument and commentary
- Construct and strategize a business plan

Subject specific
- Confidently articulate their own strengths and weakness working as part of a group and reflect on and evaluate their own learning experience including business performance

- Introduction to alternative business strategies and the implications of these for shareholders
- Data analysis techniques for strategic decision making
- Strategic risk assessment and management techniques
- Introduction to competitive advantage and marketing strategies
- Preparation of a business plans: format, content, language
- Performance reporting and monitoring
- Reflective writing
- Case study analysis
