Objectives
The module provides an understanding of the operation, challenges and issues facing the world’s international financial institutions and markets, with a focus on development, reform and policy. The course assumes an international perspective with numerous cross-country comparisons in terms of regulation, institutions and policies.Learning outcomes
Upon completion of this module students will be able to critically assess:
- the key theories of financial crises and their links with the theories of financial intermediation
- theories of financial regulation and the problems within regulations
- the role of financial regulation in the financial system
- differences across financial systems and their implications for the real economy

4. Financial crisis II: 1997-98
5. FinTech: an international perspective
6. The Eurozone-debt crisis
7. Bank regulation
8. Bank failures
9. Islamic banking
10. Financial systems in the new tiger economies
