Module summary

Innovation is challenging, but it is also an imperative for success. All organisations face a challenge to develop new products, processes, and/or services. Students in this module will develop practical and analytical skills, apply their skills to a real world challenge and present their solution to a panel of industry experts. The module invites students to apply their knowledge and skills to make them competent contributors to innovation initiatives in a corporate environment.

Objectives

Students in the module are immersed in a dynamic learning environment designed to foster interdisciplinary collaboration. By deliberately forming diverse teams, we simulate real-world industry scenarios, enabling students to leverage a range of perspectives and expertise. Through the application of Design Thinking, creativity is cultivated, leading to innovative solutions to complex problems. Moreover, students develop and put into practice their business acumen as an integral part of their projects, gaining invaluable hands-on experience. Communication skills are honed as students learn to effectively showcase the value of their solutions, aiming to create "wow" factor for stakeholders, akin to the Dragon's Den. Additionally, digital literacy is emphasized, with students utilizing digital collaboration tools for seamless teamwork. In essence module aims to enhance employability by equipping students with the skills and knowledge needed to contribute to innovation initiatives and broader projects, both internally and for clients.

Learning outcomes
On successful completion of the module students will have demonstrated the following learning outcomes relevant to the subject:

- Critically assess and apply a range of innovation management and design thinking techniques for creating new solutions and innovations.
- Demonstrate commercial awareness and synthesise different business and technological considerations into value proposition development.
- Reflect on the journey and use active learning.

Skills outcomes
On successful completion of the module students will have demonstrated the following skills learning outcomes:

- Apply a range of communication skills and methods, including design and deliver professional presentation.
- Apply collaboration skills and methods, relevant for working in diverse multi-discipline teams.

Opportunities for Formative Feedback

Students receive feedback every day during the workshops by staff and industry experts on their idea and solution, more over on session 5 and 9 they also receive peer feedback from other students and facilitators.

You are not required to pass each component individually to pass the module, as long as your combined mark for the module is above 50. If you fail the module overall, you are required to re-sit the reflective essay element during the August resit period. This has been exceptionally agreed due to pedagogical reasons to meet the learning outcomes for this module.
