Module summary
Understanding contemporary issues around CSR, ethics and sustainability is vital for managers in the modern business world. This module offers an overview of the key issues and challenges facing modern organisations. The module will be taught via a series of weekly lectures and seminars. The seminars will be interactive and will focus on case studies and academic texts. You will complete individually assessed coursework that will provide you with the opportunity to explore CSR, ethics and sustainability in depth and with reference to relevant theory, as well as the opportunity to reflect upon and articulate your own position in relation to these key areas.Objectives
The aim of this module is to provide students with an overview of issues surrounding Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), alongside the ethical and sustainability challenges that businesses face.Students will consider how to be ethical and responsible in practice, drawing on effective analysis of ethical issues, as well as developing their appreciation of the effects of globalisation, internationalisation and cultural difference on the modern business world.
Learning outcomes
Upon completion of this module, students will be able to:
1. Recognise and summarise key terms and theories relating to CSR, ethics and sustainability.
2. Critically assess the impact of CSR, ethics and sustainability on business practice.
3. Critically evaluate the roles of professionals and business leaders in providing ethical leadership.
4. Reflect upon and articulate their own position in relation to CSR, ethics and sustainability.

Students will be asked to submit a portfolio that links to each of the learning outcomes, including for example, an analysis of the CSR activity, ethical issues and sustainability within a company/industry of their choice and a reflective summary of their own position in relation to CSR, ethics and sustainability. Resit will be of the same assignment, with alternative companies/industries selected.
