Pre-requisite qualifications

- Normally at least an average grade of 60 in years 1 and 2.
- Students must be eligible to progress to the final year of their programme prior to embarking on the study year abroad.
- Where the language medium of the partner institution is not English, the student must demonstrate ability to learn the language.
- Students must also have succeeded in being placed at a partner institution, through application to the Study Abroad office.

Objectives

On completion of this module, students should have:
1. successfully undertaken a year's study at a partner University outside the UK;
2. broadened and deepened their knowledge of Mathematics, and other degree subjects where applicable, by choosing modules which complement those they have studied, and those they plan to study in the following year;
3. gained an understanding of the culture, institutions, and society of another country, and gained proficiency in a foreign language where appropriate.

Syllabus

Students should normally undertake a full time credit load. The choice of modules should be at an appropriate level, consistent with the student's degree programme in Leeds where possible, and providing suitable preparation for the student's intended choice of modules on return to Leeds. Students must have their choice of modules taken abroad approved by the School of Mathematics Erasmus Coordinator at the time of enrolment.

Methods of Assessment:

Mark determined as the better of
(1) Written report & oral presentation counting for 40% and the translated marks from abroad counting for 60%
(2) The translated marks from abroad alone.

There is no resit available for this module. Students who fail the Year Abroad will be given the opportunity of continuing on the standard BSc version of the programme.
