Module summary

The purpose of this module is to provide detailed knowledge of the immune system focusing on human health from infectious and auto-immune disease to treatment.

Objectives

- To obtain a deeper insight into how the different components of the human immune system work together to combat infection.
- To comprehend how deregulation, malfunction or suppression of parts of the immune system cause diseases.
- To obtain an insight into therapeutic approaches which target immunological important molecules.
- To be able, by the end of the module, to apply the knowledge gained to different disease scenarios.

Learning outcomes
On completion of this module students will be able to:
- Describe how the different components of the human immune system work together to combat infection.
- Appreciate how deregulation, malfunction or suppression of parts of the immune system cause diseases.
- Gained an insight into therapeutic approaches which target immunological important molecules.
