Objectives
Students should develop problem-solving skills and will be taught how to present their work orally. They will also participate in careers workshops and sessions to improve their interview/self-presentation skills.- Managing Knowledge - Assimilation of information;

Learning outcomes
On completion of this module, students should:
- be aware of up-to-date developments, hypotheses and controversies in Microbiology;
- have developed skills in the analysis and interpretation of experimental data and the construction and arguments;
- have developed the ability to express themselves clearly during oral and written presentations (to both scientific and lay audiences).

Syllabus
Students will participate in group exercises: a series of general themes of topical importance to their degree programme will be considered and each student will investigate a specific aspect and share it with the group. Students will prepare a newspaper article based on a recent research paper of relevance to their degree programme. They will attend seminars given by both academic staff and guest lecturers, which will address recent developments in microbial immunity. Students should develop problem-solving skills and will be taught how to present their work orally. They will also participate in careers workshops and sessions to improve their interview/self-presentation skills.

Semester 1 assessments will be completed and submitted online. Owing to the continuous nature of the assessment, there is no resit in August for this module. Students would need to resit the module as an internal candidate, and repeat all assessments.
