Pre-requisite qualifications
Admission to a Centre for Translation Studies MA programme with specialisation in Arabic. Centre for Translation Studies MA students who did not take the Admissions Translation Test for Arabic when they applied for the programme must pass this test before they may take this module. Students enrolled on other School of Modern Languages and Cultures postgraduate programmes may, after gaining approval in principle from the Module Manager, be allowed to take this module if they pass the Admissions Translation Test for Arabic.This module is not approved as an Elective

Syllabus
This module provides both native and non-native speakers of English with a practical course in high-level written translation from Arabic to English.
As preparation for translation work in a professional context it presents participants with practice in two different text-types taken from the following: journalistic and general/administrative OR technical/scientific and literary.
The module is taught through practical sessions, so there is ample opportunity for discussion of the principles which underlie effective translation strategies.
