Module summary
This strand of the design and communication activities is closely aligned to visual and oral presentation for Design Employment and Practice.The module consists of several focused practical tasks enabling students to learn specific pieces of knowledge, understanding and skills related to future employment as a product designer. The module aims to provide guidance in the preparation of group, individual project and presentation work, using a range of techniques and media. Progressive learning should be shown by students in:- Creativity and Originality- Critical Faculties- Information and Communication Skills- Communication, Presentation Skills and Literacy- Technical Knowledge and Skills.Objectives
On a more detailed level this module aims to help students:- present design information to a range of audiences using a range of media, for a number of different purposes;
- demonstrate an awareness of the basic principles of graphic design in both the production of their own design work and in the evaluation of their own work and that of others.
The module aims to provide guidance in the preparation of group and individual presentation work in a range of media, which will include work by individual designer application, portfolio assembly and finalising in an exhibition and aims to enable students to develop self-promotion skills and interview techniques.
Learning outcomes
Upon successful completion of this module students should be able to:
A) Prepare a design portfolio needed to secure employment in the design arena;
B) Research and collate information to direct a design project;
C) Produce a unified package to communicate a design project.
Personal Outcomes
The students will have developed a suitable level of ability to:
D) Have confidence in undertaking interviews;
E) Have confidence when being interviewed.

- Presentation of information to a range of audiences: peer groups, designers, users, manufacturers
- Presentation of information through a range of media: physical, digital, oral, press, multi-media
- Presentation of information for different purposes: sales, financial support, marketing, manufacture and production
- Basic graphic design: principles and evaluation
- Design studio work
- International Trade or exhibition visits
- Portfolio workshops
- Interviews and an exhibition
- Practical development of graphical techniques through a design exercises.
