Module summary

This module explores research processes and practices relevant to the global creative industries. It will develop skills so that you can identify and critically evaluate research and research methods utilised, and apply them in the development of a research proposal.

Objectives

This module will develop an understanding of processes and practices appropriate in researching global creative industries for use as part of your study and in your future careers. You will consider the implications of different research approaches and methods drawn from disciplinary perspectives relevant to the global creative industries. You will also develop a critical awareness of ethical practice. Through this module you will be supported in developing a research proposal to feed in to your Final Year Project.

Learning outcomes
On successful completion of the module students will have demonstrated the following learning outcomes relevant to the subject:
1. Awareness of research approaches appropriate to the global creative industries.
2. Critical review of research approaches in terms of their relative strengths and weaknesses.
3. Understanding of the moral principles that govern a person's behaviour or the conducting of an activity in any given context.

Skills Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of the module students will have demonstrated the following skills learning outcomes:
4. The ability to write in a clear, concise, focused and structured manner that is supported by relevant evidence.
5. The ability to gather information from a range of sources, analyse, and interpret data to aid understanding and anticipate problems. To use reasoning and judgement to identify needs, make decisions, and solve problems.
6. The ability to identify a research topic relevant to the global creative industries, and develop research questions and an appropriate research approach, supported by reference to academic literature.

Opportunities for Formative Feedback

Group tutorials will offer formative guidance for students focussed on their assessed presentation. An individual tutorial will offer formative guidance for students focussed on their proposal. Seminars and workshops offer the opportunity for additional formative feedback from peers and academic staff.
