Module summary
The global creative industries include enterprises driven by a range of cultural, innovative, economic and social motives. Understanding these enterprises and the environments in which they operate is essential to working in the creative industries. This module provides you with a first-hand look at the values and operations of global creative industries enterprises, and the policy, technology, economic and social environments in which they exist.Objectives
Through lectures, seminars, and working alongside an external project partner you will develop and apply understanding of debates relevant to the global creative enterprises. In response to a problem brief set by the project partner, you will analyse the project partner’s operation and and environment to understand how a part of the creative industries functions in practice. You will go on to present a report that will provide industry focussed, critically informed, insights backed by rigorous and ethical research.Learning outcomes
On successful completion of the module students will have demonstrated the following learning outcomes relevant to the subject:
1. Understanding of theories, concepts and debates relevant to enterprise and work in the creative industries.
2. Awareness of how different contexts will affect the ways in which creative enterprises function.
3. Effective communication about, and insights into, the challenges facing creative organisations.

Syllabus
Through a range of examples and case studies drawn from around the world, alongside discussion of academic concepts, this module will cover topics such as:
• Managing and promoting creativity
• Work place and organisational cultures
• Ethical practice in the global creative industries
• Creative work and entrepreneurship

Opportunities for Formative Feedback
The two-hour seminars will provide opportunities for students to collaborate on their work and receive feedback in small groups from peers and academic staff. In the two three-hour workshops students will work alongside their external organisation to develop their group projects. It is envisaged that students will use the workshops to present work-in-progress, and gather additional data on their partner organisation. A group tutorial with an academic member of staff will offer the opportunity for additional formative feedback and to provide a formal point to monitor the student/external partner relationship. The first assessment offers the opportunity to collect background information which will be formative for assessment two.Methods of assessment
