Module summary

In this module you will research an occupation in the creative industries exploring contemporary issues that affect this kind of work, including topics such as how careers progress, and the importance of learning and skills development. You will also complete a personal development plan, encouraging you to critically reflect on your personal motivations and values, and potential issues affecting routes into work you find meaningful and rewarding.

Objectives

In this module you will research an occupation in the creative industries exploring contemporary issues that affect this kind of work, including topics such as how careers progress, and the importance of learning and skills development. You will also complete a personal development plan, encouraging you to critically reflect on your personal motivations and values, and potential issues affecting routes into work you find meaningful and rewarding.

Learning outcomes
On successful completion of the module students will have demonstrated the following learning outcomes relevant to the subject:

1. Understanding of how the forms and pathways for career trajectories in the global creative industries may develop in response to emerging opportunities and changing contexts.
2. A critical reflection on the role of personal motivations and values and how they may affect creative careers.
3. Awareness of the opportunities and barriers that present in global creative industries career development.
4. Awareness of own strengths and development needs and the need for ongoing learning and proactive continuing professional development.

On successful completion of the module students will have demonstrated the following skills learning outcomes:

Opportunities for Formative Feedback

Seminars will provide opportunities for students to receive feedback in small groups from peers and academic staff.The personal development plan will provide an opportunity for students to explore their skills, motivations and values, and future development plan in a structured way. This will be partially completed in class with opportunity to discuss their personal plan with module tutors and peers.
