Module summary
This module provides you with the opportunity to undertake a project (which may be a piece of creative work) which contributes directly to personal/professional development in the form of an independent project. Your project will be negotiated with a project supervisor.Objectives
On completion of the module the student should be able to: - identify how a project can be placed within the framework of their personal / professional development;- negotiate an individual learning contract;- plan and execute a project under tutor guidance;- extend and explore discipline specific knowledge and skills in a new context;- select appropriate means to record, present and analyse their work in relation to stated objectives;- demonstrate self-direction and effective decision-making;- assess their own individual strengths and opportunities for future development.Learning outcomes
On successful completion of the module students will have demonstrated the following learning outcomes relevant to the subject:
1. Negotiate a suitable project embedded in a research context and literature appropriate to the discipline;
2. Apply relevant research methods used in their specialist field, including practice-based research methodologies where appropriate;
3. Evaluate critically the research materials and literature relevant to an area of enquiry defined through an independent project.
Skills Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of the module students will have demonstrated the following skills learning outcomes:
4. Devise, plan and execute a project within defined parameters
5. Communicate findings in an appropriate format, making use of relevant academic conventions.
Syllabus
Students negotiate the content and format of the module on an individual basis. The programme of reading will be dependent on the subject under study. The module syllabus will comprise:
• Formulation and execution of a project for personal/professional development: this may be knowledge and/or skills based
• Consideration of relationships between theory and practice
• Identification and review of relevant literature
• Identification of appropriate medium for communicating the project for its assessment
